POSITION:     Part-Time CNA Clinical Instructor (RN)

 

LOCATION:   Center for Career and Technical Education / Designated Clinical Sites

 

SALARY:  $40/hr, Part-Time Scale (4 hours/day approx. 10 am–2 pm, Mon–Fri, up to 16 wks)

 

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

 

The role of the Part-Time CNA Clinical Instructor is to provide direct clinical supervision and instruction in a licensed long-term care facility for secondary students enrolled in the Academy of Health Professions CNA Program. The instructor ensures a safe, dynamic, and comprehensive clinical learning environment with an emphasis on personal growth, technical skill mastery, and adherence to Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) clinical standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in the state of Maryland (or hold a valid multistate compact license).
• MUST have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, at least one year of which was in caring for the elderly or chronically ill in a long-term care facility within the past 5 years.
• Five (5) years of recent experience in the health field preferred.
• Eligible to complete a course with a minimum of 16 hours of instruction in the principles of adult education (such as Train the Trainer); or have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience.
• Effective instructional skills, coaching strategies, and skill evaluation techniques.
• Very good oral and written communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of subject matter and clinical nursing assistant skill protocols.
• Ability to motivate high school students in a healthcare setting.
• Regular on-time attendance.
• CPR Instructor certification preferred.
• First Aid Instructor certification preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide direct supervision and clinical evaluation of each student at the assigned clinical training site, maintaining the mandated 8:1 student-to-RN ratio.
• Execute the clinical portion of the approved Academy of Health Professions / CNA training program in compliance with MBON and COMAR regulations.
• Supervise hands-on clinical patient care experiences in a long-term care or comprehensive care facility.
• Evaluate student technical skill performance at the clinical site and provide regular progress reports to the primary classroom instructor and administration.
• Demonstrate fair, firm, and consistent behavior toward students and promote professional behavior and self-discipline in the clinical setting.
• Ensure student compliance with all healthcare facility policies, safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and patient privacy (HIPAA) laws.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct daily clinical records, including student attendance hours and skill checklist sign-offs.
• Communicate and interact effectively with students, school staff, and clinical facility personnel.
• Create a clinical learning environment conducive to hands-on skill mastery where clinical time is utilized effectively.
• Assist administration and lead instructors in enforcing all policies and rules governing student conduct in a clinical setting.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competencies.
• Supervise students in a variety of clinical and care settings.
• Other duties as assigned.
