POSITION: Academy of Health Professions Completer Teacher
LOCATION: Center for Career and Technical Education
SALARY: Unit I salary scale full time
OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The role of the teacher is to ensure that all students have equal instructional opportunities and to create a classroom environment in which teaching and learning are challenging, dynamic, and comprehensive, with emphasis on: personal growth; the development of individual talents, abilities, and values; the acquisition of knowledge; and the pursuit of understanding.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five (5) years of recent experience the health field preferred
- MUST have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience at least one of which was in the caring for the elderly or chronically ill in the past 5 years.
- Eligible to complete course with a minimum of 16 hours of instruction in the principles of adult education (such as Train the Trainer); or have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience.
- Must be a registered nurse licensed to practice in the state of Maryland
- Eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education conditional teacher certification
- Willingness and ability to lead an innovative business and education partnership
- Effective instructional skills and teaching strategies
- Very good oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Ability to motivate students
- Regular on-time attendance
- CPR Instructor
- First Aid Instructor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Recruit students for enrollment in the Academy of Health Professions Program
- Responsible for participating in development/evaluation of the training program
- Implementation of the approved training program
- Supervising classroom laboratory experiences
- Providing supervision and clinical evaluations
- Visit other school systems in the region and state to observe Academy of Health Professions Programs
- Participate in other activities as required in order to prepare for implementation of the Academy of Health Professions Program at the Career Center
- Provide skill area instruction to juniors and seniors enrolled in the Academy of Health Professions Program
- Pursue MSDE Professional and Technical Education (PTE) Certification for teaching Academy of Health Professions
- Implement an Academy of Health Professions Program of Study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Select student textbooks, resource materials, and equipment to meet individual student needs that will prepare them for employment in the healthcare field
- Organize and meet with a Program Advisory Committee
- Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and where classroom time is utilized effectively
- Demonstrate fair, firm, and consistent behavior towards students and promote self-discipline among students
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competencies
- Supervise students in a variety of school settings
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisors
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the Allegany County Public School System’s Goals and Objectives
- Evaluate and monitor the progress of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records including graduate follow-up to determine success of the Academy of Health Professions Program
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
- Provide opportunities for students to participate in career development experiences, demonstrate technical skills, and exhibit leadership abilities through Career Technology Student Organizations (CTSOs) or other professional associations
- Offer opportunity for clinical internship at local health care facility
- Offer opportunity for mock interviews with health care employers
