POSITION: CAFETERIA MANAGER I–BRADDOCK MIDDLE SCHOOL
DEPARTMENT: FOOD AND NUTRITION
REPORTS TO: SUPERVISOR AND BUILDING PRINCIPAL
SALARY: UNIT III SALARY SCHEDULE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have the ability to supervise and administer the school food service program
- Possess good habits of health, personal grooming, and cleanliness
- Be dependable and responsible
- Have the ability to cook, to handle, and to prepare foods
- Be willing to work closely with others
- Must have successful experience in school food service while meeting the Professional Standards for school nutrition personnel set forth by USDA
- Possess a high school diploma, either through a school program or G.E.D.
- Additional courses in sanitation, good handling, menu planning, nutrition, personnel management, quantity cooking and baking are desirable
- A written test of basic knowledge and skills needed to be a cafeteria manager will be given
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the efficient and economic management and daily operation of the complete food service program within the respective school
- Responsible for the sale of school breakfast, lunch, any additional programs, and ala carte items
- Supervise food preparation to assure that meals meet the necessary requirements as required by USDA
- Order food and related supplies needed while monitoring and controlling expenses
- Responsible for instructing workers, supervising their work, and organizing the preparation and serving of the food
- Supervise and train employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and high standards of sanitation and safety
- Maintain the storage of food in the manner prescribed by the MSDE, the Board of Education of Allegany County and the Health Department
- Instruct, schedule and supervise the cafeteria assistants in the preparation and serving of meals
- Maintain financial records, participation, menu production records, inventories, and various temperature logs and reports as required by MSDE and the Board of Education of Allegany County
- Ensure that all required paper work is completed in an organized, timely, and accurate manner
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A general aptitude for and ability to prepare food on a commercial level while maintaining quality and following accepted sanitary food preparation standards.
- Be able to utilize modern electronic forms of communication and electronic inventory to complete the essential job functions.
