POSITION:       SUPERVISOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

DEPARTMENT: INSTRUCTION

LOCATION:      CENTRAL OFFICE

REPORTS TO:   CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER

SALARY:           UNIT II SALARY SCALE

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be eligible for or hold a Maryland State Department of Education certificate as supervisor
• Five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level
• Have a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (A&S)
• Able to effectively supervise, evaluate teachers, and organize/implement professional development
• Have a good command of oral and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Have a minimum of 5 years successful experience as a school-based administrator
• Have experience in teaching and/or administering early learning/elementary programs
• Must have experience implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
• Have a record of success in leadership and program implementation
• Possess knowledge of curriculum and educational trends with a vision for high educational standards
• Be knowledgeable about Maryland's Early Learning Initiatives, the school improvement process, Maryland School Assessment Program and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future
• Have the ability to organize meetings, workshops, and conferences
• Exemplary interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and community
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of district/state requirements and ACPS policies
• Have strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple community agencies
• Able of performing essential duties of position with or without reasonable accommodations
• Grant writing experience and grant administration experience preferred

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Oversees the development and implementation of the early childhood/elementary curricula
• Oversees the establishing, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive, engaging, high quality research-based professional development program to enhance the knowledge and competency of teachers, principals and other elementary staff
• Works with outside educational authorities and regulatory bodies on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development issues
• Interviews and recommends teachers and instructional assistants for employment for early childhood/elementary positions
• Supervises, observes, and evaluates elementary teachers (PreK-5)
• Supervises the prekindergarten, early childhood, and elementary programs, including managing the budget, monitoring the student selection process, and pursuing state validation of the programs
• Serves as a consultant and resource person for administrators, faculties, MTSS/School Improvement, study groups, and community organizations
• Serves as a member of the Central Office Technical Support Team to provide assistance and consultation to schools not achieving academic growth
• Serves as a liaison between the local school system and the Maryland State Department of Education
• Completes reports at the local and state levels as required
• Serves as a liaison between community early childhood/elementary programs and the ACPS
• Serves as a member of the School Improvement Plan monitoring committee
• Provides leadership for the implementation of early childhood/elementary parent programs
• Coordinates early childhood/elementary programs with the Department of Special Education
• Researches new materials and best practices for early child and elementary instruction
• Works cooperatively to provide and/or arrange engaging, research-based professional development programs and activities to enhance the knowledge and competency of teachers and principals
• Works closely with the elementary instructional coaches to provide job imbedded professional development opportunities for teachers and to analyze assessment data
• Provides transition assistance for students moving to middle school and program assistance by consulting with middle school
• Writes and administers grants, as well as fulfills all reporting requirements
• Serves on various committees and task forces related to early childhood/elementary achievement
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Chief Academic Officer
