OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
The Director of Secondary Education provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the district's middle and high school programs. This role is responsible for ensuring high academic standards, rigorous and equitable instruction, and continuous school improvement across all secondary campuses. The Director works collaboratively with principals and district leaders to support teaching, learning, curriculum alignment, and student success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant should possess the following skills, knowledge and abilities in order to meet the minimum requirements for this position:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching or administrative experience at the middle/high school level.
- Have three years of successful experience in educational administration.
- Possess knowledge of curriculum and educational trends with a vision for high educational standards
- Be able to effectively supervise people, evaluate teachers, and organize and implement professional development
- Have a good command of oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- School-based administrative experience
- Have the ability to perform duties with awareness of district and state requirements, in addition to Board of Education policies
- Knowledge of current college/career readiness initiatives
- Deep understanding of adolescent development, secondary curriculum, and school operations
- Strong background in curriculum design, assessment practices, and instructional coaching
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered learning
- Knowledge and understanding of educational laws, policies, and procedures set forth by MSDE.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Blueprint coordination and oversight
- Conduct primary goal setting conference
- Conduct principal evaluations
- Oversee the school improvement planning process
- Lead the expressed parent concern process
- Organize Superintendent school-based data review meetings
- Coordinate curriculum delivery with content supervisors
- Provide instructional intervention support
- Monitor collaborative planning in schools
- Develop a discipline response plan for each school
- Coordinate professional learning for principals and assistant principals
- Assist in Crisis Response and planning
- Assist in staffing needs
- Coordinate and organize combined Secondary Council leadership meetings with agendas
- Provide leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of instructional programs for secondary education
- Support principals in establishing building-level structures that foster PLC’s, mentorship, and collaborative planning
- Co-facilitate and lead Assistant Principal meetings
- Support and assist in monitoring the integration of technology throughout the curriculum
- Provide oversight for all field trips and off-campus experiences, including reviewing and approving requests.
- Collaborate with principals to implement a comprehensive MTSS framework
- Work cooperatively with principals, School Improvement Teams, and central office staff in providing leadership for reaching system-wide goals and program implementation
- Work cooperatively to provide and/or arrange engaging, research-based professional development programs and activities to enhance the knowledge and competency of teachers and principals for the improvement of instruction
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Chief Academic Officer.
