POSITION: Director of Elementary Education
DEPARTMENT: Elementary/Early Childhood Education
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
SALARY: Unit II Salary Schedule
OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Director of Elementary Education provides leadership, direction, and support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the elementary instructional programs of Allegany County Public Schools. This individual works collaboratively with district and school administrators to ensure high-quality instruction, aligned curriculum, and equitable student outcomes across all elementary schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant should possess the following skills, knowledge and abilities in order to meet the minimum requirements for this position:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience at the early childhood/elementary level.
- Have three years of successful experience in educational administration.
- Possess knowledge of curriculum and educational trends with a vision for high educational standards
- Be able to effectively supervise people, evaluate teachers, and organize and implement professional development
- Have a good command of oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- School-based administrative experience
- Have the ability to perform duties with awareness of district and state requirements, in addition to Board of Education policies
- Have experience with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for academics and behavior
- Have a record of success in leadership and program implementation
- Be knowledgeable about Maryland’s Early Learning Initiatives, the school improvement process and the Maryland School Assessment Program
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Blueprint coordination and oversight
- Conduct primary goal setting conference
- Conduct principal evaluations
- Oversee the school improvement planning process
- Lead the expressed parent concern process
- Organize Superintendent school-based data review meetings
- Coordinate curriculum delivery with content supervisors
- Provide instructional intervention support
- Support principals in establishing building-level structures that foster PLC’s, mentorship, and collaborative planning
- Develop a discipline response plan for each school
- Coordinate professional learning for principals and assistant principals
- Assist in Crisis Response and planning
- Assist in staffing needs
- Coordinate and organize combined Elementary Council leadership meetings with agendas
- Provide leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of instructional programs for early childhood/elementary education
- Provide oversight for all field trips and off-campus experiences, including reviewing and approving requests.
- Co-facilitate and lead Assistant Principal meetings
- Coordinate early childhood programs with the Department of Special Education
- Supervise the Pre-K program including managing the budget, monitoring the student selection process, and pursuing state validation of the programs
- Support and assist in monitoring the integration of technology throughout the curriculum
- Collaborate with principals to implement a comprehensive MTSS framework
- Work cooperatively with principals, School Improvement Teams, and central office staff in providing leadership for reaching system-wide goals and program implementation
- Work cooperatively to provide and/or arrange engaging, research-based professional development programs and activities to enhance the knowledge and competency of teachers and principals for the improvement of instruction
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Chief Academic Officer.
