POSITION: STAFF ACCOUNTANT
LOCATION: CENTRAL OFFICE
REPORTS TO: CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER
SALARY: UNIT II SALARY SCALE
OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Performs a variety of general accounting duties, including, but not necessarily limited to, the following: accounting and auditing duties associated with restricted grants, general ledger maintenance, budgetary analysis, fixed asset accounting, procurement and contractual analysis, internal audit support, and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance
- Working knowledge of grant administration at the state and federal level preferred.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in general accounting for industry, a public agency, or an accounting firm is preferred
- Governmental accounting experience and knowledge of nonprofit accounting is desirable
- Demonstrated experience as a strong team member and motivated self-starter
- A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications is required
- A knowledge of Tyler Munis and Quickbooks is preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- History of professionalism and strong work ethic
- Successful management of confidential information and materials
- Ability to work prolonged and irregular hours
- Must be capable of essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares financial statements and reports as necessary for assigned funds
- Assists with the internal audit function
- Assists with accounting and auditing duties associated with grants, including Blueprint.
- Monitors the procurement of goods and services in accordance with the Allegany County Board of Education’s policies and procedures, and state and federal guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (cont):
- Enters general accounting (journal entries, cash receipts, etc)
- Performs sales and use tax compilation and reporting
- Performs research and account analysis, as assigned
- Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget
- Performs specific financial analysis, as assigned
- Assist and works with independent auditors, as well as those from State and Federal agencies
- Adheres to the ethical standards of the profession
- Engages in life-long learning of professional and technical knowledge by attending appropriate workshops, reviewing professional publications and websites, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations related to accounting and management.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times
- Performs other necessary duties as required
