POSITION: SUPERVISOR OF SCIENCE
DEPARTMENT: INSTRUCTION
LOCATION: CENTRAL OFFICE
REPORTS TO: CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER
SALARY: UNIT II SALARY SCALE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be eligible for or hold a Maryland State Department of Education certificate as supervisor
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience in science at the appropriate level
- Have a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (A&S)
- Able to effectively supervise, evaluate teachers, and organize/implement professional development
- Have a good command of oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a minimum of 5 years successful experience as a school-based administrator
- Must have experience implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
- Have a record of success in leadership and program implementation
- Possess knowledge of curriculum and educational trends with a vision for high educational standards
- Be knowledgeable about Maryland's Next Gerneration Science Standards, the school improvement process, Maryland School Assessment Program and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future
- Have the ability to organize meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Exemplary interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district/state requirements and ACPS policies
- Have strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple community agencies
- Able of performing essential duties of position with or without reasonable accommodations
- Grant writing experience and grant administration experience preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership for a comprehensive and consistent science education program
- Oversee curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and instructional improvements
- Support and evaluate teachers in collaboration with principals, providing coaching, consultation, and professional development
- Disseminate information on curriculum trends, professional growth, student activities, and awards to staff and departmental chairpersons
- Recruit, select, and place science teachers; supervise and guide teacher specialists
- Supervises, observes, and evaluates science teachers
- Serves as a consultant and resource person for administrators, faculties, MTSS/School Improvement, study groups, and community organizations
- Recommend and implement policies and practices to strengthen science programs
- Serve as liaison with local, state, and national organizations focused on science/STEM education
- Coordinate science activities sponsored by private and governmental agencies
- Researches new materials and best practices for science instruction
- Schedule and monitor outdoor field trips, middle school outdoor school, and the Envirothon
- Coordinate federal, after-school, and specialized programs, including:

- Title IV, Part A
- Middle School After-School Program
- PLTW Biomedical Science Program
- Plan and lead regular meetings with science teachers and departmental chairpersons
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Chief Academic Officer
