Pupil Personnel Worker
DEPARTMENT: Student Services
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
LOCATION: Various Locations
SALARY: Unit II Salary Schedule (12 months)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be eligible for or hold a Maryland State Department of Education Certificate as a pupil personnel worker preferred. If not, must be willing to obtain PPW certification.
- Three years successful teaching, counseling or administrative experience
- Demonstrated ability to work with various problems in human relationships
- Must be capable of performing the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Counsels and conferences with children and parents
- Identifies and assists children and families in accessing services to address unmet needs (home, school, community)
- Acts as case manager of student services through record review, observations, home visits, parent conferences and development of social histories
- Coordinates the delivery of services to students and families through an inter/intra agency approach
- Assists with pupil accounting such as attendance, suspensions, etc.
- Coordinates home and hospital teaching
- Assists in transitioning students to and from residential facilities
- Identifies physical, emotional, social, and financial barriers preventing students from succeeding in school
- Actively participates in all school interdisciplinary teams such as Crisis Team, Pupil Services Team and IEP Team
- Assumes leadership role in interpreting policies, procedures and laws relating to discipline
- Provides training and acts as consultant for schools and communities on Board of Education policy and procedures on a variety of topics such as abuse, harassment, conflict management, crisis intervention, parenting, etc.
- Investigates custody, residency and out-of-district issues
- Facilitates alternative educational placements
- Coordinates hearings for students suspended from school and ensures due process
- Presents a positive public image, demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills
- Promotes good public relations
- Demonstrates knowledge of cultural, racial and ethnic diversity
- Supports the local school system vision and mission by taking a proactive role in providing educational opportunities for all students
- Demonstrates courteous and professional treatment of all students, parents, and employees of Allegany County Public Schools
- Performs all other duties as assigned
