            REPORTS TO:       Principal/Supervisor

            SALARY:               Unit I  Teacher Salary Schedule 

            LOCATION:          Various Elementary Schools, Reimbursement for travel will be paid at current federal mileage rate.

                                                                                                                       

 

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

  • The Elementary Behavior Specialist will be responsible for providing behavioral strategies for students in general education settings.   The Elementary Behavioral Specialist will help teams complete Functional Behavior Analyses and Behavior Intervention Plans and assist instructional staff when implementing individual, small group, class, or school-wide plans. The Elementary Behavior Specialist will provide coaching and mentoring for instructional staff in the areas of student behavior management, behavior planning and implementation, gathering and analyzing data, and identifying barriers to individual success in inclusive environments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field. Candidates with a teaching certificate are preferred.
  • Applicants should have experience in the areas of student behavior management, behavior plan development, and social skills instruction.
  • Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist teachers and teams in the identification and development of individualized, evidence based behavioral interventions strategies.
  • Facilitate team meetings for the purposes of completing Functional Behavior Assessments, designing Behavior interventions Plans, addressing classroom organization, defining social skills instruction, and including School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention strategies as part of a comprehensive behavioral approach.
  • Develop specific behavior intervention plans for “at-risk” students and assist in implementation, including using appropriate resources to promote development of pro-social behavior.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation related to the implementation of behavioral goals and protocol.
  • Work with students in classrooms to reach behavioral goals as determined by their educational plans.
  • Collect data regarding student behaviors and monitor student progress toward behavioral goals.  

 

  • Schedule and meet with general and special educators to implement, monitor, and revise student behavior plans.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with supervisors, peers, and other instructional staff to ensure student success.
  • Attend student IEP meetings and contribute to the development of IEPs.
  • As appropriate and requested, present professional development to administrators, teachers, and other instructional staff on behavior intervention, anger management, or other topics related to behavior strategies.
  • Understand, relate, and communicate the principles of effective classroom management.
  • Possess the motivation and willingness to attend all required team meetings and professional development sessions.
