Position: School Social Worker
Department: Special Education and Student Services
Location: Various Elementary Schools
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Salary: Unit I Salary Scale -Dependent upon degree and experience
Overview
The School Social Worker will be responsible for addressing the mental, emotional, social, and physical well-being of students ranging from elementary to high school by providing case management when a student is working with outside providers and/or special programs. The School Social Worker must have the ability to work with students, parents, school staff, teams, and community partners to offer support to the family and maintain a strong school connection.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in professional counseling or a closely related field.
- Experience in the areas of case management, wraparound services, and knowledge of community resources.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide interventive, consultative, and follow-up services in a variety of situations as needed;
- Provide case management services to students/families that focus on mental health, physical wellness, resiliency, and coping skills;
- Maintain and collect data on evidence-based interventions and their outcomes;
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist school staff and family members with the development and implementation of intervention strategies to be followed in specified support plans that promote positive school engagement;
- Assist in the collection and documentation of data, related reports, and child records for support planning and review;
- Initiate referrals, facilitate communication, and coordinate services among community agencies to meet the needs of students;
- Attend all required team meetings and professional development sessions;
- Facilitate ongoing positive relationships with school staff members, parents, and community agencies;
- Identify and assess barriers to learning through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community;
- Assist with reintegrating students back into the classroom following crisis or hospitalization by organizing, leading, and case managing aftercare meetings and/or plans;
- Participate in risk and threat assessments when appropriate;
- Provide professional development for staff, students, and families;
- Conduct classroom observations of students;
- Travel throughout Allegany County;
- Performs other duties as assigned
