POSITION: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT (SUBSTITUTE IA and/or PART TIME IA)

THIS ADVERTISEMENT IS TO CREATE A POOL OF APPLICANTS TO FILL TEMPORARY POSITIONS WHICH BECOME AVAILABLE DURING THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR AS OPENINGS BECOME AVAILABLE. THESE POSITIONS MAY INCLUDE FULL TIME OR PART TIME IN SPECIAL EDUCATION, IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION; KINDERGARTEN, PRE-KINDERGARTEN, TITLE I, ETC.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Preferred applicants will possess AA degree or higher, or have completed 2 years of study with a minimum of 48 credit hours at an institution of higher education, or have passed the ParaPro Assessment Praxis • Must be able to cooperate and work with classroom teacher • Must have an interest and desire to work with young children, as well as, learning disabled, mentally disabled, and physically disabled children • Previous training or experience working with young children and disabled children preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assists in the implementation of instructional objectives in a variety of school environments • Works with a variety of students who have diverse learning needs • Provides suggestions, feedback and support to school staff and peers regarding effective strategies for facilitating learning • Keeps anecdotal records of progress • Implements teacher lessons to meet students’ instructional objectives • Implements the behavioral management strategies using the same emphasis and techniques as the teacher • Communicates with parents under the direction of the teacher • Carries out all duties as directed by teachers and administrators • Establishes communication, understanding, and relationships among all students • Fades dependence on adult assistance as appropriate • Increases independence by identifying options and having student make choices • Gathers materials for use during lessons • Works with the student by doing things with instead of for the student, as appropriate • Becomes a part of the class by working with any student who needs accommodations • Assists students with physical disabilities with mobility • Assists students with physical disabilities with personal needs • Regular, on-time attendance • Performs other duties as assigned
